These are fiction books, but older. It should be remembered that many times fable and legend have their roots in truth!

Metal Detector Fields

Metal Detector fields penetrate the earth better when the ground is wet, or at least damp.

A Metal Detector Pinpointing Trick

A very useful method when pinpointing a target in either all metal mode, or the transmitter receiver discriminating mode, is to position the coil over the target where you get the loudest sound, then reset the threshold with the toggle switch. This will make the detector go into null/threshold sound over the target, and when moved away the sound should go totally silent. Passing the coil over the target now will give just a short blip and makes locating at least the center of the target a lot easier, and will usually give a very good indication of the targets shape and size, by delineating the perimeter of the target more clearly. This also comes in handy when you think you may be detecting two or more targets in close proximity, which actually sound like one large target. This method will many times allow you to hear the various targets.
