The rodeo hits a new low

October 10th 2010 22:56
calf roping rodeo

Who would have thought an event (I refuse to call this a sport), where men try to prove how tough they are by wrapping a rope around the neck of a baby animal, knocking them to the ground and dragging them could get worse? Surprise, it has.

To the cheers of the crowd, a teenage girl had a similar thing done to her at a Chilean rodeo. She entered the ring to peacefully protest the cruelty and was then roped and dragged from the ring. Any assault charges filed? None that I have heard of so far. In fact here is an example of the typical attitude regarding what happened; The Chilean Rodeo Federation's director "regretted what happened, but at the same time justified the attitude of the riders"

In a world where animals and females are regarded more or less as property, this isn't much of a surprise.

By now we have all heard of the cruelty involved in rodeos (animals with broken legs, broken backs, broken necks, etc), but we never hear about what goes on before the rodeo. We don't hear about the calves, horses and other animals that are choked, knocked down and dragged for hours on end, over and over, everyday, for practice. This goes on year round, not just for a day or two before the rodeo.

I'll never understand how men can enjoy abusing animals and then think of themselves as 'tough' and 'macho' for doing so. Why women would even want to compete to prove they are as 'macho' is beyond comprehension and very disappointing. I'm guessing mental illness or brain damage, from either a birth defect or some sort of trauma.

As for women who find these men attractive, they have probably been raised in families where the men are in rodeos, so for them it is the norm. I'm also willing to bet that most of those homes were very abusive and so they jump from an abusive home to an abusive husband, as that's all they know. It would be hard to believe that men who abuse animals for enjoyment, don't continue that same behavior at home, especially when they are getting some gratification from it.

I think what happened at the rodeo is a perfect example of how violence against animals leads to violence against people, most often women and children, as abusers usually only pick on those weaker.

nick drake

By now everyone has heard the beautiful song played during AT&T's commercial with the orange material. If not, here it is below:

I, along with quite a few others, decided to find out more about the song. Unfortunately, it led to a story of a talented young man, who took his own life 36 years ago.

His name was Nick Drake and he never quite achieved the fame he wanted. He was born in 1948 and grew up in England, where he achieved limited success. He suffered from depression throughout his life and at age 26 died from an overdose of amitriptyline. His death was ruled a suicide, but some relatives believe it was accidental.

Since his death, his music has gained in popularity. It has been used in numerous films such as: Serendipity, The Royal Tannenbaums, Garden State and more recently The Blind Side. His music can also be found in commercials by AT&T and Volkswagen.

Here is the complete song from the AT&T commercial. It's called From The Morning.

I really hated using the fact that he committed suicide in the title, but that word tends to attract attention. I just think his music is too beautiful to go unnoticed, so I used a tactic I figured would bring more interest than if I had just titled it Nick Drake. See it worked, your reading it right now.

i'm back

Well it looks like I will be taking over this blog......again. Originally it was written by someone else and it was all about different types of treasure hunting. Then I took it over and the treasure hunt adventure became all about what hidden treasure could be found on the internet. Then my life became too busy to keep up the blog so someone else took over. Now I finally have some time and having found this blog abandoned decided to once again take it over

Windfall

May 4th 2009 14:31

The term windfall is used to denote some special turn of events or luck. The word itself tells what “windfall” means – something blown down by wind, such as trees, or fruit blown from trees. But the word has taken on a special meaning. This meaning – getting something unearned – was first used in medieval England.
At that time, much of the land was in the hands of a few barons. The rest of the people, commoners, lived and worked on their vast estates. They planted the seed , cared for the farm animals and harvested the crops. Not all the land, however, was used for farming. Every land baron kept a large private forest for hunting deer and wild boar

Online personal assistant

October 11th 2008 06:56
pageonce internet

Pageonce calls itself the First Personal Internet Assistant. It's looks like a great idea. You can view all your personal accounts and websites in one place - bank, credit, utility, even your netflix and social networking sites. It will show balances, bills that are due, cell phone usage, new messages and emails, frequent flyer miles. It sounds great but I'm a little paranoid about giving out so much information - bank accts, credit card numbers, passwords, etc
